Spellbinding Entertainers

The Tarot cards are fascinating and their history depends on where you look! Wikipedia says that Tarot cards first came to Europe in the 14th Century and were originally a game and not for divination. However, there is speculation that they actually originated in Ancient Egypt and were used as a tool to guide Initiates in to the Mysteries. There is a story flowing through the Tarot deck of The Fool and his journey to understanding the Self, and much of a Tarot reading is recognising this journey of self-discovery.  

However, it appears that using the cards can well give us insight into the future. When I first learned to read the cards I was sceptical, so imagine my surprise when I discovered how accurate they appeared to be. How can a few cards apparently randomly chosen from a deck of 78, match with where I was in my life and not only that, but predict a future event? I’ve never been able to fully answer this question, however this doesn’t affect the relevance of the readings.

The imagery on each card can be read, and they can also be used as a focus for accessing intuition and clairvoyance. I’ve been reading Tarot cards since 1994 and I’m beginning to understand the quantum concept that we don’t end at the skin at all, but are all connected through a sea of energy. Perhaps this is how, when focused on an individual, we can gain access to information which is supposedly outside our knowledge.

But that aside, how does Tarot work in a party environment? Brilliantly!

People love to try something new, and love to hear about themselves. Our aim is to uplift and encourage each guest while being as accurate as we can. Accuracy is important as this is what gives the wow factor and can be a real conversation spinner or ice breaker. It’s great to hear guests saying ‘Oh my God, how did she know that!’ 

We adapt our readings to be shorter for an event, usually 5-10mins per reading if we’re sitting at a table, and 1-3mins if we’re mixing and mingling at reception or going around the tables during dinner. I’ve worked at every single event imaginable in the fourteen years I’ve been doing this – from Gala Charity events with 2000 guests to dinner parties for 20, as well trade shows, product launches and incentive days. We’ve worked in hotels, on boats and even on trains. Tarot reading is wonderfully adaptable and extremely successful as a form of entertainment with virtually everyone!
