The Tarot cards are fascinating and their history depends on where you look! Wikipedia says that Tarot cards first came to Europe in the 14th Century and were originally a game and not for divination. However, there is speculation that they actually originated in Ancient Egypt and were used as a tool to guide Initiates in to the Mysteries. There is a story flowing through the Tarot deck of The Fool and his journey to understanding the Self, and much of a Tarot reading is recognising this journey of self-discovery. 

There seem to be two distinct types of Palm Reading – one which has more of a Romany feel to it, and Chinese Hand Analysis which was developed in China several thousand years ago. The first type is more of a fortune telling tool and indicator of past events, while the Chinese palm reading is primarily about the personality of the individual.
